Baidu recently launched Baidu Brand Index (require login), which is a similar product to Google Trends for brands, which is based on Baidu’s webpage and news search data. It shows both industry index and region index.

Baidu IndustryIndex currently refreshes its data daily and shows information for two industries: automobile and online gaming. There is a list of mobile manufacturers to select for each industry up to three options. You can even select brands of a certain manufacturer as illustrated below:

You can expect a similar search trend graph like that of Google in the Baidu Industry Index graph; the difference is, Baidu Brand Index shows the number of searches other than relative value. The following graph compares search trends of “Guangzhou Honda” (yellow), “Guangzhou Toyota” (blue), and “imported Honda” (green):

Baidu Region Index compares search trend by regions. You can select an industry, brand, model or product to see the search trend differences across different regions. A pie chart will be shown for the current day’s search share across all provinces. See the example below for the selection of “Ferrai”:

It shows 15.6% of searches regarding “Ferrari” come from Guangdong province. If you click on that part of pie chart, trend graph will be shown on the right (you can select one month, one quarter, half year, full year of data):

You can do a comparison up to 3 different cities which must be from the same province.

The Baidu Brand Index tool is useful for companies to do geo-targeting and have a better understand where their products may have a better chance. However, we do expect to explore data of more than just two industries.
