According to Tencent’s latest released data, its QQ instant messenger service reached 80 million simultaneous online users at 8pm on Oct 10, 2009. As China now has about 338 million Internet users (according to CNNIC’s latest report), it means one quarter of total Internet users in China log in QQ messenger at the same time.
By the first half of 2009, Tencent’s total revenues were RMB5,382.8 million (USD787.9 million), an increase of 77.5% over the first half of year ended June 30, 2008. Over 75% of its total revenue are actually from Internet value-added services (USD 594.4 million). Revenues from online advertising were just USD 57 million?a bit more than 7%).
Tencent’s market capital is about HKD 230 billion (close to USD 30 billion).
