Google Dropped its Chinese Name GuGe

Google China’s homepage changed its name to “Google China” on April 3, 2010. Previously, Google had a Chinese name “Gu Ge” (as shown in the image above), announced in April 2006.

An article at cnBeta.com earlier this week shared (link broken) a screen capture of a new Baidu search interface, which is similar to Google’s: Baidu could be testing this new UI among a small group of searchers as no one else yet has reported similar UI.

Baidu Promotes Google Translate

Baidu has a page life.baidu.com showing different types of search services such as hotel search, stock info, mobile phone info, calendar search… One of the tool shown on the page is translation where Baidu simply embeds Google Translate box. Google Digital Library Suspected of Copyright Infringement in China

CCTV reported in its Morning News program that the Google China Digital Library is suspected for large-scale infringement of copyrighted Chinese books. According to China Written Works Copyright Society, a total of 17,922 books from 570 authors, including works from government officials, have been scanned into Google China Digital Library without authorization. Google Search Dropped by Tencent

Google China Ordered to End Foreign Site Access

via FT.com, Beijing has ordered Google to stop users of its Chinese-language service accessing overseas websites in the biggest blow to the world’s leading search engine in China since it started operating there four years ago. As I tried just now, I was still able to access overseas websites listed on Google.com search results.
