Alipay released its 10-year bill statement as well as the latest payment statistics in different provinces in China as of 31 Oct 2014. The data shows in the past 10 years, Chinese consumers’ expenditure generated 42.3 billion transactions on Alipay. The volume of mobile payment on Alipay accounted for over 50%.
Alipay users can auto generate 10-year bill statement in an interesting way on mobile client—Alipay Wallet; in fact, many Alipay users shared the interesting facts about their Alipay usage on Wechat and Weibo.
Top 5 places by expenditure value were Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Beijing and Jiangsu representing 15.5%, 12.5%, 9.3%, 9% and 8.8% of total respectively.
In terms of top cities by expenditure value, Hangzhou, Jinhua and Huangshan were the top 3. The average expenditure per person on Alipay in this three cities were RMB44,197, RMB39,965 and RMB39,029, much higher than that in Shanghai.
People in west China favor mobile payment on Alipay. In 2014, top 4 areas in China by mobile payment ratio were Tibet, Shaanxi, Ningxia and Inner Mongolia with 62.2%, 59.6%, 58.3% and 57.6% respectively. And, Tibet has been ranking top by mobile payment market share on Alipay within 3 consecutive years.
As of 16 October in China, total number of Alipay Wallet’s active users exceeded 190 million. With the popularity of Alipay Wallet, Chinese daily life is becoming more convenient.
As of the end of Q3 2014, Yu’E Bao’ users exceeded 149 million and users made profit of RMB5.7 billion ($0.93 billion) in one quarter. Besides, the total profit generated since its birth on June 2013 was over RMB20 billion ($3.2 billion). On average, each user made profit of RMB133 ($21.74).
Post-80s are the major group for Yu’E Bao users, representing 43.9%. Post-90s accounted for 32% of total Alipay users and they tend to love mobile shopping and use mobile payment.
On double 11 (11th November 2014), Alipay broke the global record with mobile payment transaction volume of 197 billion.
