China mobile internet monthly active users (MAUs) grew by 1% as of 31 March 2016, according to the data from QuestMobile.
Android users take up a large market share with an increment of 90 million a year while iOS users 50 million.
Over half of China’s internet users come from the first-tier and second-tier cities.
In term of the mobile terminals, Samsung enjoys a high penetration rate across all city tiers, followed by Xiaomi and Huawei; the penetration rate of Huawei in the first-tier cities (15.8%) is close to that of Xiaomi (16.6%); Oppo and Vivo are popular in the second-tier, the third-tier, and the forth-tier cities.
4G internet has a penetration rate of 49.3% in the first-tier cities; and, it is at least 40% in other cities.
Users in lower tier cities rely on Wi-Fi more; and, the daily average usage of 4G is roughly 14 or 15 MB, almost twice the amount of the 2G or 3G.
The average daily online duration per user of Wi-Fi is over 90 mins on average, followed by 4G which is 61.9 mins in the first-tier cities and goes down to 50.1 mins in the fourth-tier cities and below.
Users in the first-tier cities tend to download and use more apps, 45.7 downloaded and 15.2 opened frequently.
Tencent video apps are most popular with 293.907 million MAUs in Mar 2016, followed by iQiYi (246.216 million) and Youku (189.981 million); AcFun soars quickly with a growth rate of 576.7% y-o-y.
Inke, an online video live broadcasting app, ranks no.1 (13.685 million MAUs); both Huomao TV and Waqu Live have a growth rate of over 1000% YoY.
Kugou Music, which has 231.256 million MAUs, reaches the top of China online music apps market, followed by QQ Music (165.272 million MAUs) and Kuwo Music (87.538 million MAUs); The K has increased 542% y-o-y.
Mobile Taobao has the most MAUs of 345.850 million, followed by JD (115.464 million) and Vipshop (51.432 million); though Miya ranks 14th, it performs well with the highest y-o-y growth rate of 760.9%.
Fanli.com, Juanpi.com, and Zhe800 are top 3 the most popular China shopping guide applications; and, 1.163.com has a growth rate of nearly 4000% y-o-y.
Xiaohongshu is the most popular overseas shopping agent app in China with 5.684 million MAUs, followed by Kaola (2.654 million MAUs).
The top 3 China digital reading apps are iRead with 48.390 million MAUs, Shuqi 18.721 million, and Neihanduanzi 14.888 million; the rank remains the same in terms of daily active users (DAUs).
China has many food delivery apps; of which, Eleme (14.294 million MAUs), Baidu Takeout (12.401 million MAUs), and Meituan (12.265 million MAUs) are the top 3 food delivery apps; and, Xiancheng of Sina, Xiaoduzhanggui of Baidu has a growth rate of over 800% y-o-y.
58.com is an important classified information app in China, which was merged with Ganji, the second popular app providing the similar service. Xianyu performs well after the two big apps’ merging, up by 374.5% growth rate y-o-y.
Maoyan Movie has 12.887 million MAUs among China movie/show apps, followed by Migu Movie (5.845 million MAUs) and Taobao Movie (4.821 million MAUs).
Keep, Migu Shanpao, and Yuedongquan Running are top 3 China sport/fitness apps, whose MAUs reach 11.073 million, 9.655 million, and 9.109 million respectively.
Ping An Doctor outranks many other China mobile medical apps with 32.175 million MAUs in Mar 2016, and 2964% growth rate y-o-y.
Babytree ranks the top of China menstruation/pregnancy apps with 11.483 million MAUs, followed by Meetyou (9.514 million) and Dayima (5.838 million).
As for children rearing apps, Qinbaobao is the top 1 with 4.377 million MAUs; and, Beiliao has an growth rate of nearly 400% y-o-y.
For the money management apps, Ping’an Life Insurance (10.319 million MAUs), Ant Fortune (9.586 million MAUs), and JD Finance (6.452 million MAUs) are the most popular apps; 51 Accumulation Fund Manager has a high y-o-y growth rate of 2981%.
10jqka ranks the no.1 in China stock apps with MAUs of 59.553 million.
China Construction Bank has the largest MAUs of 29.382 million in March 2016; and, Bank of Ningbo and Bank of Hangzhou (both in Zhejiang, China) are up by 215.9% and 253.5% respectively.
As for China payment apps, Alipay has much more users than any other payment apps in China, which is 272.014 MAUs in Mar 2016, according to QuestMobile.
In terms of China P2P apps, Chuxuguan has 3.311 million MAUs in Mar 2016, but it suffered a 60.2% declination of y-o-y growth rate; by contrast, Jingyubao Money Management soars more than 1400%.
Sofang.com (5.126 million MAUs) and Anjuke (4.427% million MAUs) are two popular real estate information apps; Lianjia also increases quickly as of Mar 2016, a y-o-y growth rate of 880.2%.
The top 5 car e-commerce apps are Yiche, Guazi Used Cars, Renrenche Used Cars, Youxin Used Cars, and Used Cars (Autohome).
The top 3 China traffic violation query apps are Chelun Traffic Violation Query, Traffic Violation Query Assistant, and Traffic Violation Query.
The top 3 China car care apps are Guaguaxiche, Xmiles, and Yitingche.
The top 3 China online travel apps are Qunar, Ctrip, and Alitrip.
The top 3 China airline service apps are 133.cn, Umetrip, and VariFlight.
The top 3 China hotel service apps are Home Inns, eLong, and Vienna Hotels.
The top 3 China job hunting apps are Zhaopin, 51job, and Yidagong; Jianzhimao performs a well y-o-y growth rate of 149.4%.
The top 3 China education apps are Zuoyebang, Yuansouti, and 17zuoye; and, Kechenggezi presents the highest y-o-y growth rate of 2757.1%.
The top 3 China logistic apps are Kuaidi100, Fuiou, and S.F.Express; Kuaidi100 ranks no.1 with 2.253 million MAUs.
The top 3 China social networking apps are WeChat (706.733 million MAUs), QQ (553.963 million MAUs), and Weibo (271.178 million MAUs).
The top 3 China app store apps are Myapp (Tencent), Baidu Mobile Assistant, and 360 Mobile Assistant.
The top 3 China browser apps are QQ browser, UC browser, and Baidu mobile browser.
The top 3 China Quality and Security apps are Tencent Mobile Manager, 360 Mobile Guard, and Cheetah Clean Master.
The top 3 China tool apps are Moji Weather, Weather Reader, and MIUI Weather; Moji Weather ranks the first.
In terms of China telecom apps, QQ Mailbox has 102.393 million MAUs, ranks the first.
The top 3 China office/business apps are Baidu Yunpan, WPS Office, and QQ Synchronization Assistant; Ding Talk, an app developed by Alibaba, increases 1306.3% y-o-y.
