China’s mobile browser usage overview 2016

The number of mobile browser users reached 575 million in China in Q3 2016 with a slight growth of 1.95% according to iiMedia.

Baidu launched a VR browser in July 2016, currently only available for Android smartphones integrating features like 360 view, videos, navigation, and download. It transforms a regular web page to a VR version. Qihoo 360 acquired desktop and mobile browser business of Opera.

Mobile browser clients grew to 575 million in Q3 2016.

UC Browser (owned by Alibaba) was renamed “UC” integrating news media in Q3 2016. UC mobile browser has the highest user active rate of 57.3% ranking on top, followed by QQ Browser, 360 Mobile Browser, Baidu Browser.

Mobile browsers are not a popular media for watching online videos among China mobile users with less than 15% frequency usage.

Users with Wi-Fi connections tend to use mobile browsers for a longer period of time, compared with those using cellular data.
