Total sales of retail and food & beverage enterprises in China amounted to 1.4 trillion yuan (US$202.16 bn). The average daily sales increased by 9.5% year-on-year during the week-long (October 1-7) National Day holiday in 2018, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
The top 8 fastest growing provinces in terms of their major commercial enterprises’ sales are Shaanxi (12.7%), Yunnan (12%), Sichuan (11.3%), Hubei (11.1%), Guangxi (10.5%), Hunan (10.2%), Chongqing (9.8%), and Hainan (9.8%).
The more detailed sales data regarding shopping mall, department store, supermarkets, and convenient stores in municipalities and provinces are shown below.
Beijing – 120 commercial services enterprises generated US$854.85 million
The sales of 120 commercial services enterprises in Beijing totaled 5.92 billion yuan (US$854.85 mn) in 7 days, a year-on-year increase of 7.3%. Outlets was one of the most-visited shopping malls with sales of its several stores growing at over 15%.
Traditional department stores also launched various promotional activities. For example, Wangfujing Department Store, Grand Pacific, and Gongmei Building all saw an increase of over 8% in sales; the passenger flow of 11 shopping malls such as Chaoyang Joy City and Livat Shopping grew by 10% year-on-year, according to Amap.
Convenient stores and community supermarkets were also popular. The sales of Hema Supermarket and Shouhang Supermarket increased by 5 times and 9% year-on-year, respectively.
Shanghai – experience type shopping center performed well
The sales of 395 retail and food services enterprises in Shanghai reached 13.763 billion yuan (US$1.99 bn) (from September 24 to October 7), a year-on-year increase of 9.56%. Among them, the major enterprises in Yangpu and Changning districts saw high growth of 32.8% and 24.1% in sales, respectively.
