eBay quietly returned to Chinese market in cooperation with a Chinese fashion site xiu.com, appeared on Jingdong in June 2013.
Xiu.com, a Chinese leading online luxury retailer, was founded in 2008. Now Xiu.com is cooperating with the three big platforms which are eBay, Gmarket and Karmaloop. And it has got 50 luxury brands authorization.
After eBay’s earlier failure in China, it became more cautious. This time, eBay choose to cooperate with Xiu.com. eBay focused on its advantage, which is providing resources to B2C enterprises. eBay let Xiu.com be in charge of most eBay style management. eBay style sells mostly fashion products and luxury brands, and all the products come from eBay global suppliers. It covers 5000 brands, including clothing, handbags, shoes and health care products. Xiu.com manages sales, logistics, customer service and eBay style website maintenance to satisfy growing needs of Chinese customers.
eBay tries to play its part as business consultant and supplier, which seems rather smart than it did in 2003. Besides, eBay has realized it does not understand Chinese business very well. eBay decided to work with one retailer in segment market, this could lower operating costs and prevent quality control problem.
And eBay style’s entering on Jingdong was led by Xiu.com, not really related to eBay.
