When it comes to new products, are you willing to be the first buyer or you prefer to wait and see? Nielsen has recently done a survey and the result obviously shows various opinions of Chinese consumers when a new product is launched in the market.
Forbes shared their idea of which are the top 25 cities in China in terms of commerce, innovation, operation cost and developed tourism.
- Shanghai appeared for 4 times in the top 3 as the best commercial city, the best innovative city, city with highest operation cost and city with most developed tourism.
- First tier cities, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, ranked high in the top 25 best commercial cities and top 50 best innovative cities. Sadly, doing business in such big cities also means extremely high operation cost
- Judged from the performance of those cities in Yangtze River Delta, we can see the great potential innovation capability in this area
In the past 30 years, the household consumption as percentage of total GDP went downhill quickly. It was more than 50% in the eighties, and then down to approximately 40% in nineties. Unfortunately, it was only 35% in 2007.
After Chinese confidence levels fell to 104 and 105 index points in Q2 and Q3, Chinese consumer confidence in Q4 returned to Q1 levels, ranked the sixth most optimistic country last quarter, according to Nielsen’s China Consumer Confidence Report.
China and the U.S. posted two of the strongest gains of 108 and 83 points respectively, while 60 percent of global markets measured posted confidence declines. Year-on-year, Chinese consumers spent more on out of home entertainment (+8), new technology purchases (+5), clothes (+5), dining out (+4) and vacations (+4) according to Nielsen. [Read more...]

The World Bank lowered its forecast for China’s 2009 economic growth on Wednesday but warned Beijing that it would be thwarting its own medium-term goals if it tried to offset the slowdown by further boosting investment.
