The recently launched version of Sogou Chinese input method has Sogou search integrated. As one of the most popular Chinese input method in China, the new Sogou Input could “hijack” some Baidu’s search volume.
When Sogou Input users type Chinese in search engines, suggestions with direct search results could be integrated and send users to the website directly. Even when they type Chinese in other text area, this could also happen. Even more, as shown in the above screen capture, Sogou suggests different search terms as users type and send them to Sogou’s own search results page if any suggestion is clicked. Interestingly, this feature is disabled when users use 360 search.
According to CNZZ’s data, new Sougou accounted for 12.75% market share in China search engine market in August 2014. The top 2 remained to be Baidu and 360 search (which is now Haoso.com).
