NetEase develops and operates some of China’s most popular mobile and PC-client games. In more recent years, NetEase has expanded into international markets including Japan and North America.
In addition to its self-developed game content, NetEase partners with other leading game developers, such as Blizzard Entertainment and Mojang AB (a Microsoft subsidiary), to operate globally renowned games in China.
NetEase has produced some of China’s most renowned and longest-running online PC-client games, including Fantasy Westward Journey Online and New Westward Journey Online II, as well as other highly successful games, such as Tianxia III, New Ghost and Justice.

William Ding (Ding Lei)
Founder, Director and Chief Executive Officer
William Ding, its founder, has served as the director since July 1999 and Chief Executive Officer since November 2005.
From March 2001 until November 2005, Mr. Ding served as our Chief Architect, and, from June 2001 until September 2001, he served as our Acting Chief Executive Officer and Acting Chief Operating Officer.
From July 1999 until March 2001, Mr. Ding served as Co-Chief Technology Officer, and from July 1999 until April 2000, he also served as the interim Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Ding established Guangzhou NetEase and Shanghai EaseNet, the affiliates, in May 1997 and January 2008. Mr. Ding holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Technology from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China.
As online gaming is Netease’s core business accounting for the majority of its total revenues, it’s top competitor is Tencent.
